Romantic Sorrento Wedding in Italy

Becky and Sam’s Italian wedding at The Cloisters and Villa Anticha Mura

I was so lucky that this year I got to photograph two weddings in Italy within in the space of two weeks and I loved it! The first one was in Sorrento for the wedding of lovely Becky and Sam. It was such a beautiful day, emotions were running high in the morning (which is completely normal) and as soon as they were together again you could see them both relax which was just beautiful to witness. They got ready at the Santa Lucia self-catering apartments just outside Sorrento centre, the ceremony took place at The Cloisters which is stunning and the reception was held at Villa Anticha Mura which has some A-MAZ-ING views!

I asked Becky and Sam some questions about their wedding day and the lead up…

How did you meet?

Sam and I met on online dating platform Plenty of Fish - I messaged him first - any perceived gender roles went completely out of the window.  Sam had just bought his first house and moved in on 16.08.14. Our first date was 18.08.14 and so his life as a bachelor lasted all of two days. Sam had convinced me that he needed to source out a local pub and asked if I would join him to find it. I drove to his house and we went to a pub called the Boat and Horses which we were convinced was called the Dog and Doublet for at least 6 months after (we still call it the D&D today!). There was a pub quiz on and we shared our first kiss over half a cider and a pint. Very romantic. We then went back to the house and as Sam had no furniture and no TV stations set up we watched DVDs of phoenix nights, sat on the floor with Champagne out of mugs. It wasn’t the most romantic date to say the least, but it worked for us. We still watch phoenix nights with a bottle of champagne every 18th August.

How did the proposal happen?

We got engaged on my 28th birthday in New York City. I had once told him that my favourite place on earth was New York at Christmas. I LOVE Christmas! He proposed to me at the top of the Rockefeller centre overlooking Central Park.  He almost gave the game away as we had to go through security. He was convinced that he would be stopped and the game would be given away and so he seemed very shifty, nervous and constantly patted his coat pocket for the ten minutes before he proposed.

How did you find wedding planning?

I had a wedding planner as my wedding was in Italy and so wedding planning felt a little removed for me. I loved all the pinterest boards and seeing my vision coming together but felt quite stressed handing over control to someone else and trusting they would be able to put ‘my vision’ into a reality.

What were your highlights of the day?

There were so many highlights of the day for me but the first was getting down the aisle to Sam. He says the same. We both struggled a lot on the morning of the wedding with the typical wedding anxieties. Once I got down to the aisle to him we were both so relaxed and finally could start enjoying the day. It all felt right once we were back together. It was also amazing to see all our family and friends just having a wonderful time and were mesmerised by the venues we chose. I was so pleased that everyone had such a good time.

What advice would you give to others planning a wedding?

RELAX and enjoy! It is so hard to chill and I was told again and again to just enjoy the day as it honestly flies by so quickly. Take some time away with your partner to soak up the atmosphere. We were married at 12pm and carriages were at midnight so we had a full 12 hours of celebration but it went by in the blink of an eye. It truly is the most wonderful day of your life.

Were there any suppliers that stood out for you?

Lulu Browns Bridal and Legend Bridal were fantastic with my dress. Lulus helped me find the most incredible mermaid style dress that was just perfect. It was exactly what I didn’t think I wanted but my mum asked me to try on. They’re right when they say you know when you find the one. I still remember the feeling so acutely. The dress that I wore was a sample dress and Legend bridal were incredible at making the dress fit me perfectly. There was so much intricate detail on the dress but they were absolutely wonderful and no job was too big.

Here are a few highlights of the day in Sorrento! Please feel free to leave a comment for Becky and Sam (or me!)
